Presumption

"What the hell do you mean, you're a were-shark?"

Kisame raises his eyebrows and takes another sip of his beer, looking at the incredulous brunette scowling up at him. He's starting to think that the scowl may be permanent, forever etched onto a face that might otherwise be called soft, with pouty lips and full cheeks. As it is, this new acquaintance—Momochi Zabuza—appears anything but soft.

"Really, it's just what it sounds like," Kisame says, smiling. "When the full moon rises, I don't turn into a wolf, fox, bear, or other creature. Instead, I transform into a were-shark."

Zabuza's scowl deepens. "That's ridiculous."

"Why do you say that?"

Snorting, Zabuza makes a sharp gesture to the bar at large, indicating the various other patrons. All of them are monsters of some sort, save for those seeking a monstrous date. Some types of monsters are apparent at a glance: for instance, the vampires who guzzle blood instead of beer. Others require a bit more guesswork, such as banshees (easily mistaken for zombies), merfolk (who appear human outside of water), and were-creatures.

"I've come to this bar for years," Zabuza says, "and I've never even heard of a were-shark."

Kisame hums, idly tapping his heel against the side of his stool. "Well, I did arrive in this town only the other day… Perhaps you should expand your horizons?"

Zabuza narrows his eyes. "What do you mean by that?"

"Only that this isn't the only bar for monsters in the world. You might be surprised by what you find outside its doors."

Eyes still narrowed, Zabuza leans toward Kisame, balancing precariously on the edge of his stool. "I'm a werewolf, asshole. I travel plenty."

"Really?" Kisame grins, his interest piqued. "I thought werewolves were rather territorial, always circling back to the same place… Except when you're claiming new things, I suppose."

"Claiming new things," Zabuza repeats, his sharp eyes locked on Kisame's.

"That's right. Perhaps it's only a stereotype, but…" Kisame leans a little closer, lowering his voice. "I've heard that werewolves enjoy marking others as their own."

For a moment, Zabuza merely stares at him in silence, evidently sizing him up. Then he says, "Are you asking to get bit?"

"Not in the sense that some of these humans are… I'm already a were, after all."

"Right. A fucking were-shark."

"Goodness, you don't have to sound so incredulous."

Zabuza snorts. "All right. Let's say you are what you say you are. Why would you want me to bite you?"

"Haven't you ever seen sharks mate? It's rather rough…"

It is as though Kisame has spilled blood into water. Immediately, Zabuza's nostrils flare, his chin lifting, pupils dilating. Kisame bites the inside of his lip, trying to suppress a delighted giggle.

"Is that so?" Zabuza asks, his voice going low, a growl teasing its edges.

"Oh, yes. But I don't think we should discuss it any further in public… It might be inappropriate, don't you think?"

Wordlessly, Zabuza rises to his feet. Then he reaches out, grabbing Kisame's collar and tugging. "Come on."

Setting down his beer, Kisame eagerly follows, delighted to have found such a compatible new partner.
